Winter Wedding Cake Ideas

Wedding cakes in winter can take enormous inspiration from the weather and festive spirit. From cool colours through to red berries, winter is all about style and sophistication. Simple white cakes can look really effective at a winter wedding. The elegance and simplicity of the crisp clean cut and sharp edges of fondant will scream style. Add a bit of sparkle with pearls or glitter, or even some deep red roses and your cake will show your sophistication, as well as reflecting the seasons. This cake shows you the beauty in simplicity – the cascading pearls would look fab paired with some snowflakes!

Another popular theme for wintertime weddings is the cool pallet of blues and metallic. Blue and the shimmer of silver makes sure that jack frost will show in your big day, and as with the previous cakes, it’s all about simplicity. Try different colours and textures on each tier – like this silver and blue ruffled cake. The use of silver leaf sets the cheap vs classy divide between silver, and shines so beautifully in different lights. The addition of some white roses will make it extra special

Red and gold are classic around the festive season. These colours can look tacky if not used correctly, but can equally look magnificent when done right! The use of gold, red and green together, bring warmth and liveliness to any event – so imagine that on a cake! Try a chocolate ganache drip cake with red berries and gold leaf statements like this one by cake designer Anges de Sucre.

Adding some adorable wintery figurines to the top of your cake would be a fantastic way of embracing the cold. There’s lots of companies who will make clay keepsake figures as cake toppers like these (see picture), or your cake maker will more than likely be able to make them for you out of fondant. Have a bride and groom penguin topper or maybe a pair of red robins – its sure to make your guest go aww.

If you are a nature loving couple, the wintery nature wonderland scene could be a great choice for your cake. Using a shadow design against a white or ivory covered cake, results in a chic yet cute cake. Try deep colours for the scene to add some vibrancy instead of black. This one with deep purple by the Famous Cake Maker Rosalind Miller has a striking finishing effect, and you can match the colour with you theme.
If your wedding is around Christmas, there are so many beautiful and festive touches that you can add to your cake. For a really alternative look for your festive wedding cake, try adding some gingerbread! Attaching some deconstructed gingerbread houses around the outside of your cake creates a cute show stopping look that everyone will want to dive into. There are so many little details you can add to this design, like adding your favourite sweets, your initials or a sprinkling of snow – you can get really adventurous!
There’s so many options with winter themed wedding cakes – the most important thing is that you end up with something that you both love and that tastes great!
